"Release" the Gaye Lee Russell Album
players, Stories, and other weird factoids
This album started out 20 years ago when my producer read the lyrics of a song I wrote when I was younger. He read "SALAMANDER SALLY" and knew of it's potential. I agreed because, well, I wrote it. Let me take this time to thank my producer and especially all my players on this album. Here goes. I think we'll just go with instrument played, in order to try to keep it organized.
Guitars: Gaye Lee Russell, Tim Loepp, Roger McConnell, Willy Nicholas, Bryan Sumpter, Jim Badalich, Stan Welsh, Larry Barkemeyer, Natty-O, Kiefah Pearson, Frank Salcido
Bass: Kenny Hanselman, Dave Cooper, Kiefah Pearson, Greg Carter, Willy Nicholas, Bill Shreve, Vaughn Avery
Keys: Gaye Lee Russell, Sean Jackson, Skip Jones, Hank Shreve.
Drums: Dave Roberts, KC "At Bat" Forbing, Danny Miller, Theo Halpert
Percussion: Dave Roberts ( Broom), Leaf Vincent (Bongos)
Horns: Chuck DeMonnin (Trumpet/Trombone), Paul Biondi (Saxaphones)
Harmonica: Dino Albaugh
Cello: Dale Bradley.
A thank you would not be complete without a shout out to Tim Loepp for putting in hours at his studio, Christian at Sprout City Studios, where we recorded a track, Larry Barkemeyer at his studio where another track was recorded and Gary Brittons studio for the last track on the album.
However, the bulk of the recording/producing load was shouldered by Danny Bortzy Bortz and Recorded at First Track Production Studio plus Danny recorded some live stuff as well that made the album. Mixing and Mastering was all done at First Track, so thanks all around. Dan and Dave made a special trip to Bi-Mart to get the right broom with the right sound for the song "NOBODY KNOWS YOU WHEN YOU'RE DOWN AND OUT", so, thanks to Bi-Mart to carrying old timey brooms.
In conclusion I want to thank Doc Justice for gifting me JUPITER, my beautiful guitar that's gotten me through many long days and longer nights and Mel Vessel for building such a fine guitar, Steve Spoulos for always taking great photos of me, many of which are used on this site. Also our web guy Mike who always knows where to point things and knows the intricacies of SEO and control panels. Since this Album has environmental leanings, I would like to give a shout out to Cascadia Wildlands, a cause I wholeheartedly believe in for their fantastic work preserving our watersheds of the rivers that flow into the Pacific, our rainforest in the Pacific Northwest and Recovery of the Gray Wolves making a remarkable comeback just to mention a few things, and finally, and most importantly, to my dear friends (you know who you are) who have whole heartedly supported me in all my musical endeavors through the years. THIS ALBUM IS FOR YOU.
